High school football: Clovis East rolls past Sanger, highlighted by a huge defensive play
Stopping the Clovis East football team may be a tough task for teams this season.
Just ask West-Salt Lake City, Kingsburg and now Sanger.
The Bee’s second-ranked Timberwolves didn’t waste any time Friday night in dispatching the ninth-ranked Apaches in convincing fashion at Tom Flores Stadium.
Final score: Clovis East 56, Sanger 3.
The Timberwolves have outscored its first three opponents 135-31.
“I just think it’s the will to win,” Clovis East coach Brandon Nagle said. “I think we just want to finish. There’s something driving us that I can’t even explain.”
Quite impressive for Clovis East who retained the Silver Spear trophy game.
Spectacular plays also aided the Timberwolves.
OShea Webb intercepted an Ariano Ciano pass in the first quarter and returned it 105 yards for a touchdown as Clovis East took command from there and led 21-0.
Webb’s teammates ran with him to the end zone.
“It’s just that they’re having fun together,” Nagle said. “They want to play for each other.”
The Timberwolves kept piling it up before Sanger got on the scoreboard 56-3.
Tyus Miller also got in on the act when he scored a rushing touchdown. For the game, Miller finished the game with four passing touchdowns.
Blake Mathieu had two receiving touchdowns for the Timberwolves.
Clovis East will be tested next week in a game against Grant-Sacramento.
“This is one of the best teams in the state,” Nagle said. “I think they know that. Their focus is knowing that the team is coming to town next week and how good they are. I think they have a couple of four-star guys. We’re excited for that.”
