Bee’s Best: The winner of the Fresno-area football Player of the Week for Week 1 is ....
Hawk Garcia of the Mendota High football team is the winner of The Fresno Bee football Player of the Week poll for Week 1.
Garcia finished ahead of Carvell Wafer of Buchanan.
He tallied 56,176 votes (43%). Wafer was a close second with 48,058 votes (37%).
Garcia ran the ball 22 times for 134 yards and a touchdown in the Aztecs’ 27-12 victory over Golden Valley-Bakersfield.
The Week 2 poll will begin some time on Monday.
