Sophomore QB sparks Tulare Union to a win. How Garza picked up lessons in loss
Plenty of lessons were learned for the Garza High football team on Thursday night.
Tulare Union sophomore quarterback Jordan Crisp provided the lessons.
Crisp threw for six touchdowns to lead the Tribe to a 62-48 victory over the Guardians at Koligian Stadium.
“I just stay confident,” Crisp said. “Stay poised and be calm coming out and take a deep breath.”
The-ever-so confident Crisp danced to the sound of music during a timeout.”
That is how the night went for Tulare Union when they seemingly scored on every play.
“I’m really happy how we played offense,” Tribe coach Darren Bennett said. “Quarterback played well and the receivers played well.”
Both teams went back and forth in the first half before Tulare Union scored a touchdown on a 32-yard pass by Crisp to Sonny Guess with 1 minute left in the first half.
Crisp and Guess connected on another touchdown in the third quarter for a 41-34 lead and the Tribe never let go of the lead.
Tribe running back Tieler Peterson got in the act when he scored four touchdowns (three rushing and one receiving).
Garza coach Yosef Fares gave plenty of credit to Crisp and also said they “learned a ton.”
“We are going to the lab and we’re going to get better,” Fares said. “We threw a lot of different things at them. We threw man at them and we threw a zone at them. We threw cover and we got to give their coaches credit and we made adjustments, they made adjustments and it was a chess match all night.”
It didn’t help matters for Garza after wide receiver London Alexander had a groin injury in the first half and didn’t play in the second half.
Garza, though, couldn’t stop Crisp and the Tribe in the second half.
“Both sides of the ball offensively were moving,” Fares said. “It came down to who got the first stop. They got the first stop and the second stop. That’s kind of the difference in the game.”
