Predicting how Week 1 high school football games will turn out in the Fresno area

Check out these games to watch as high school football begins in the Fresno area.

Game of the Week: Hanford at Bullard

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ratcliffe Stadium

This is a good matchup to start the season, and it’s a tossup.

Hanford brings back senior quarterback Cayden Muir who will also have wide receiver Jayden Sudds and running back Kourdey Glass.

Bullard is coming off a Central Section Division II championship season and coach Don Arax said his team is young but also talented.

This game could come down to the final two minutes.

Prediction: Hanford 37, Bullard 34

Bakersfield at Buchanan

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Another good matchup to start the season. This game will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Bears are led by QB Jayden Mandal. The Buchanan defense could cause some problems for other teams.

Prediction: Buchanan 28, Bakersfield 17

Clovis North at San Joaquin Memorial

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

How good can San Joaquin Memorial be? The Panthers have standout running back Brandon Ramirez. There is tons of talent surrounding him, as well.

The Panthers will have Carson Dean as their quarterback.

Clovis North got a big boost on the coaching staff, adding former Roosevelt coach Vince Branstetter to the mix as the offensive coordinator for Mike Jacot’s team.

Cornerback Rashid Mansour and safety Vincent Cordoba will bring a strong secondary for the Broncos.

This game could be a defensive battle.

Prediction: San Joaquin Memorial 27, Clovis North 17

Ridgeview at Clovis West

When: 7 p.m. Friday at Lamonica Stadium

Golden Eagles coach Eric Brown is expecting a lot from his team: “We can really shock the (Central Section).”

Clovis West has plenty of talent to make it happen.

We think they’ll get off to a good start.

Prediction: Clovis West 34, Ridgeview 23

Clovis East at Dinuba

When: 7 p.m. Friday

It’s a big game for the Emperors, welcoming a Tri-River Athletic Conference school to its stadium.

The Timberwolves welcome in coach Brandon Nagle and will be led by quarterback Tyus Miller.

Prediction: Clovis East 23, Dinuba 21
