Meet The Bee’s Top 100 high school football players in the Fresno area. (Elsewhere read about Player of the Year Roland Russo and Coach of the Year Don Arax.)

The Bee factored individual statistics, team success, all-league honors and submissions from coaches in creating its All-Bee Team.

Offensive Player of the Year

Clovis senior running back Tristan Risley set school records including yards rushing in a season with 1,897, breaking the mark of 1,773 set by Kent Saunders in 1996, according to Central Section historian Bob Barnett.

There also was a record-setting night — rushing for 440 yards and scoring six touchdowns for 36 points in the Cougars’ 60-43 win over Clovis West.

Risley ended his career No. 1 on Clovis charts for rushing yards (3,902) and TDs (54).

He was named the Tri-River Athletic Conference player of the year.

Defensive Player of the Year

Buchanan senior safety Jerry Rangel finished the season with 119 tackles — 45 unassisted and 74 assisted. Rangel had two interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown.

Warkentin set a school record for the season and career in rushing yards.

Warkentin finished with eight school records, Barnett said. He rushed for 2,700 yards in his career and 1,866 for the season; 37 touchdowns in his career and 27 touchdowns in a single-season.

The records continued when had 270 carries in his career and 193 in a season and 222 points (career) and 162 (single season).

Camarillo wasn’t that far behind for Orosi.
