Central Valley Christian advances to state championship. Here’s how CVC got there

Central Valley Christian is one win from capturing a state football title.

The Cavaliers got there by rolling to a 21-9 victory over Serrano in the CIF Division 4-AA Southern California Regional Championship Friday night in Phelan.

Now, CVC will face Marin Catholic in Kentfield for the state championship on Dec. 11.

The Cavaliers didn’t waste any time Friday in getting out in front of Serrano.

After CVC received the opening kickoff, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a Josh Sousa 34-yard touchdown run. The Cavaliers converted a two-point conversion when Maxx Bakker hit Parker Jones in the end zone.

Sousa went on to score again, this time on a 3-yard run in the second quarter to give CVC a 14-0 lead.

Then Sousa found the end zone one more time with a 36-yard reception from Bakker to extend the Cavaliers’ lead to 21-0 with 5:53 left in the third quarter.

Brandt Munger had two interceptions for CVC.

The Cavaliers reached the SoCal regional championship after defeating Bakersfield Christian 27-25 for the Central Section Division III championship on Nov. 26.
