Fresno-area high school football: A ranked team upset and several game balls given

Buchanan High is ready for the Tri-River Athletic Conference.

The Bee’s top-ranked Bears ended the nonleague portion of the high school football schedule Friday night with a 45-14 victory over Edison at McLane Stadium.

Buchanan jumped out to a 38-0 first-half lead.

The Bears won the TRAC in the shortened season in the spring, including a thrilling 31-28 win over Central on March 26.

Buchanan will open the TRAC with a home game against Clovis West at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Sanger 14, Clovis East 10

In a matchup of Top 25 teams, the 15th-ranked Apaches trailed in the fourth quarter before Ashton Rodriquez scored on a run to secure the Silver Spear Trophy against the No. 18 Timberwolves.

Rodriquez scored the game-winner with 2:27 remaining. Joshua Almaguer sealed the game with an interception.

Redwood 20, Kingsburg 18

The Vikings had a 12-7 lead at the half.

Then Redwood found its groove late in the third quarter.

Karson Everett had two rushing touchdowns and Ashton Ibarra had a TD catch in the fourth quarter, lifting the Rangers past No. 11 Kingsburg.

Kingsburg had a chance to tie the game after a Trace Jackson score, but the Rangers’ Rio Sanchez made a tackle near the goal line on a two-point try.

Game balls

Joshua Almaguer’s interception sealed Sanger’s 14-10 win over Clovis East.

Trent Calvert threw three touchdown passes in Dos Palos’ 38-14 victory over McLane.

Andrew Camarillo had two rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns in Orosi’s 31-29 win over Caruthers.

Duran Delgado had 16 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns in Selma’s 35-7 win over Hoover.

Karson Everett led the way for Redwood when he finished with 26 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-18 victory over Kingsburg.

Jorge Gonzalez rushed for two second-half touchdowns in Tulare Union’s 17-7 win over Bakersfield Christian.

Juan Martinez had 214 rushing yards and four touchdowns and Isaac Romero finished with 238 rushing yards and four touchdowns in Riverdale’s 74-6 win over Parlier.

Cayden Muir of Hanford threw for two touchdowns and ran for one in the Bullpups’ 41-7 win over Tulare Western.

Kike Rios had 16 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown in Corcoran’s 45-14 win over Farmersville. He also had four tackles.

Player of the Week winner

Caleb Hall of Edison is the winner of The Fresno Bee’s Player of the Week for Week 4.

Hall received 7,289 votes (46%) ahead of Maddox Merlo of Clovis East who picked up 5,381 votes (34%).

Dayton Tafoya of Central came in third with 17% of the votes (2,642).
