Tristan Risley is now Clovis High’s career rushing leader, breaking a record Friday night that stood for 35 years.

He is now at 2,664 rushing yards, surpassing Kelvin Olivas’ 2,654 career yards set in the 1980s, Central Section historian Bob Barnett said.

Most importantly, The Bee’s fifth-ranked Cougars defeated Whitney-Rocklin 27-7.

Risley scored on a 2-yard run in the third quarter.

Clovis quarterback Nate Johnson had a 25-yard run in the first quarter and hit Carlos Mack for a 25-yard touchdown in the third quarter

Los Alamitos 34, Buchanan 31

It was a matchup at Veterans Memorial Stadium of state-ranked teams. Host Buchanan is The Bee’s top-ranked team and No. 26 in California by MaxPreps, which rated Los Alamitos No. 7.

Buchanan had a 17-13 lead at halftime after Josiah Ayon caught a 32-yard pass from Jayden Mandal

The Bears regained the lead on Michael Runnels’ 18-yard run with 1:06 left in the third quarter for a 24-20 lead.

The Griffins scored the next 14 points, but Buchanan rallied with a touchdown in the fourth quarter when Travis Sirwet had a 23-yard touchdown reception from Mandal.

It appeared Buchanan would get the ball back with at least 2 minutes remaining, but the Bears were penalized for an illegal hit to the head on third down. Los Alamitos milked the clock for the win.

There were seven lead changes.

Clovis North 33, Edison 26

The Broncos scored 27 of their 33 points in the first half at Ratcliffe Stadium.

Paul Sharp had two touchdown runs (1 and 6) in the first quarter.

The Tigers got within 27-20 on a 26-yard fumble recovery by Elijah Eason.

Clovis North stretched its lead on an Andrew Chavez 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Clovis West 35, Bullard 28

No. 20 Clovis West provided the thunder at the end.

Jordan Pierro had a 5-yard touchdown reception from Tyler Patrick with 5:46 remaining and the Golden Eagles tacked on another score on Markel Sanders’ 65-yard interception for a touchdown in a victory over No. 8 Bullard Thursday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The game was delayed because of lightning but resumed after 9 p.m.

Bullard had led 14-0 in the second quarter before Clovis West scored 21 unanswered points.

Jordan Stewart had two scores for the Knights.

Lightning causes delay

It was a wild Thursday evening in the Fresno area when rain and thunderstorms arrived, and that affected several high school football games.

Four games were in a lightning delay before three of those games were suspended.

Sunnyside was leading Paso Robles 25-7 at the half. Reedley also led at the half, 24-7 over Mendota, and Immanuel had a 14-7 lead over Shafter at the beginning of the third quarter.

Sunnyside athletic director Sue Farmer said the game is ruled a no contest.

Reedley athletic director Darren Minami said “we are still trying to find a date and time to resume the game but we haven’t been successful yet. If we cannot agree on a date and time to finish the second half, it will go down as a no contest.”

Immanuel and Shafter will resume Oct.. 15.

Game balls
