Cory Hall is back in the Central Section.

The former Clovis North High football coach is taking over at Edison.

Tigers athletic director Hector Verduzco said he’s excited about bringing in the former NFL player who has experience and knowledge.

“I’m grinning ear-to-ear,” he said. “It’s going to be such a pleasure to have him on board and to have this opportunity to take Edison High to new heights. He brings with him so many positive elements, not only football, but to Edison and athletics. We are incredibly excited.”

The Edison job opened up after Atnaf Harris was removed as the coach in early October.

Hall was successful in high school football ranks before going to Wisconsin as a graduate assistant in 2014. He later joined Oregon State as the cornerbacks coach. He spent two seasons there, finishing as interim head coach for the final six games in 2017 with the Beavers.

Other college stops included Central Michigan in 2018 and Weber State in 2015.

He led Clovis North to a 32-8 record, including two section championships (Division I and II), according to section historian Bob Barnett.

Clovis North finished runner-up in the section championship in 2013.

Hall will look to help Edison get back on top after the Tigers finished 2-8 last season.

Edison hasn’t won a section championship since 2014 when Matt Johnson guided the Tigers to a 12-2 record and 4-1 County/Metro Athletic Conference record.

Hall played for Fresno State from 1995-98. He was a third-round draft pick and spent six seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Hall to Fresno Unified,” Fresno Unified Superintendent Bob Nelson said in a news release, “knowing that he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with our Edison High student-athletes.”
