Edison High pulls out a win – and a big defensive play helps ice it
Not once did Edison High defensive back Teyjohn Herrington think about simply falling to the ground and letting his team run out the clock.
All he thought about was scoring. And he did so in grand style.
Herrington returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, helping the sixth-seeded Tigers to a 20-13 victory over No. 11 Clovis North in the opening round of the Division I playoffs at Sunnyside Stadium.
It was the senior’s first career pick-six, too.
“I read the quarterback, adjusted and I was able to be there for that interception,” said Herrington, whose Tigers were leading 14-13 at the time. “I had all intentions on scoring because I knew what the team was in need for.”
Herrington holds recruiting offers from Fresno State, Arizona State and Nevada.
The Tigers (7-4) face No. 3 Buchanan on Nov. 17. Clovis North finishes 2-9.
