Prep basketball: Immanuel’s Colin Slater, Buchanan’s Donovan Mitchell among nominees for McDonald’s game
Immanuel High’s Colin Slater and Buchanan’s Donovan Mitchell are among four Central Section basketball players nominated for the 39th McDonald’s All American Games.
Slater is a 6-foot-1 senior point guard who has signed with Tulane, while Mitchell is a 6-9 senior guard/forward who is committed to Wake Forest.
Also among the 755 high school seniors from around the nation on the nominations list are Centennial’s Malcom Johnson and Garces’ Celeste “C.J.” West.
The 24-player boys and girls rosters will be announced at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17 from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., during the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Show on ESPNU.
The games are set for March 30 from Chicago’s United Center.
▪ Clovis East, behind 47 points from Trey Semien, edged The Bee’s top-ranked Immanuel 92-90 in triple-overtime on Monday at the Fresno City College gym.
Brandon Recek’s 3-pointer at the buzzer forced the third overtime.
Darrin Person scored 31 to lead the Eagles, who lost to a section opponent for the first time since Feb. 2, 2014. Slater added 13 points.
