Five Fresno-area high school basketball teams move on to the next round of the playoffs
Five Fresno-area basketball teams remain alive in the CIF state playoffs.
One of the matchups involved Tri-River Athletic Conference schools in girls basketball action.
No. 12 Central came away with a 52-42 victory over No. 13 Buchanan 42 in NorCal Division III playoffs.
The Grizzlies put the game away for good on a 3-pointer by Brielle Smith for a 45-36 lead with 4:34 remaining.
Central will face top-seed Lincoln at 6 p.m. Saturday.
San Joaquin Memorial and Porterville girls, Clovis North and Bullard boys teams also advanced.
No. 5 San Joaquin Memorial 50, No. 4 Los Gatos 36: The Panthers built a 20-point lead in the third quarter and cruised to the win. Memorial will host No. 8 Lincoln after the Trojans defeated top-seed Piedmont, 63-56.
No. 3 Porterville 55, No. 6 Carlsbad 54: The Panthers will next have a home game against No. 15 Orcutt Academy.
No. 13 Clovis North 45, No. 5 Folsom 43: The Broncos trailed the Bulldogs 41-24 before going on a 18-0 run to take the lead 42-41 on a 3-pointer in Division I. After Folsom made a basket, Clovis North closed out the game scoring the next three points. Clovis North will next face No. 1 Sacred Heart Prep or No. 8 Oakland Tech.
No. 11 Bullard 63, No. No. 3 Whitney-Rocklin 57: The Knights outscored the Wildcats 21-5 in the second quarter and held on for the win. The Knights visit No. 2 Oakland at 6 p.m. Saturday.
