Showdown set in CIF basketball regional playoffs between two South Valley teams

It will be a matchup of two Hanford high school girls basketball teams in the California Interscholastic Federation Northern California regional quarterfinals.

In Tuesday’s first round, No. 3 seed Hanford High defeated No. 14 Oakland 75-68, and No. 11 Sierra Pacific traveled to Salinas and defeated No. 6 Notre Dame 72-62.

That sets up a an all-Hanford affair between the Bullpups and the Golden Bears in the second round. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Hanford High.

The teams met earlier in the season at the Central Valley Showdown when host Sierra Pacific won 71-69.

Also advancing Tuesday: No. 4 Hoover boys (Division IV), No. 3 Clovis North girls (Division I), No. 2 Clovis girls (Division II) and No. 5 San Joaquin Memorial girls (Division II).

Another all-Valley quarterfinal is set in boys Southern California Division V, No. 6 Fowler at No. 3 Delano.
