Clovis West rallies from huge deficit to beat Clovis North in OT. This player went off
Leave it up to Cole Anderson to carry Clovis West to a Tri-River Athletic Conference basketball win.
Anderson, a junior who already has received at least nine college basketball offers, scored all of the Golden Eagles’ points in overtime for a 75-67 victory over Clovis North in a TRAC opener for both teams at the Clovis North gymnasium on Friday night.
Anderson finished with a game-high 27 points, including 10 during the extra session.
“In the second half, we just went back to our old stuff,” Anderson said. “This is probably one of the hardest leagues in town. We just got to get ready every night because someone can get upset and everyone is tough.”
Clovis West (16-3, 1-0) had trailed for most of the game, including a 24-8 deficit after the first quarter.
The Golden Eagles chipped away and tied the game at 65-65 on Max Phillips’ spin-move layup with 23 seconds left in the fourth quarter to force the game into overtime.
Anderson finished the game with 27 points. Malachi Henry led Clovis North (12-6, 0-1) with 17 points.
Clovis North beat Clovis West 63-62 on Dec. 14 to win the CW Nike Invitational. Before that, the teams met for the Central Section championship last February at Selland Arena, a 66-63 Clovis West OT win.
Nikki Tom leads Clovis West
Nikki Tom finished with a game-high 22 points and Aaliyah Seuell added 13 points as the Clovis West girls basketball team pulled away for a 71-59 victory against Clovis North in a TRAC opener.
It was the first matchup between the teams since their meeting in last season’s Central Section Division I championship, which the Eagles won 73-38.
Laney Amundsen led the Broncos with 16 points.
Clovis West (15-4, 1-0) hadn’t played a game in the area since Dec. 10.
The Golden Eagles faced teams in Florida and San Diego.
The Broncos (13-5, 0-1) have been away, too, competing in out-of-area tournaments in Phoenix and Concord.
