Prep notes: Fresno High honors its major league link; Ryan Tos joins Sac-Joaquin hierarchy

Fresno High has anchored a display board near the entrance of its baseball field, showcasing 13 players from the program who made the Major Leagues.

The $15,000 project, funded in full by the Warriors’ community, lists in purple and gold three rows of the players under the heading: “FRESNO HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL THE MAJOR LEAGUE TRADITION.”

The list features Major League Hall of Famers Frank Chance (1894 graduate) and Tom Seaver (1962).

Others are Dutch Leonard (1910), Howard Craghead (1926), Dave Odom (1935), Ted Wills Jr. (1952), Dick Ellsworth (1958), Jim Maloney (1958), Pat Corrales (1959), Dick Selma (1961), John Hoover (1980), Bobby Jones (1988) and Sean Halton (2005).

Tos elevated to Sac-Joaquin position

Ryan Tos, an 11-year athletic administrator in Tulare and Kings counties, has been named assistant commissioner of the Sac-Joaquin Section.

Tos spent the past two years as the athletic director at Lemoore after a 13-year run at Central Valley Christian, the last nine as the school’s AD.

A former three-sport athlete at Immanuel, Tos will be responsible for running playoffs and maintaining relationships for the state’s second largest section, which governs 197 schools in 26 leagues.

Tos, 40, begins his new job July 1. He’s replacing John Williams, who is retiring.
