Prep volleyball: Buchanan boys get No. 2 seed in SoCal regionals
The Buchanan High boys volleyball team, which held off Sanger last week for the program’s third consecutive Central Section Division-I title, was awarded with the No. 2 seed in the CIF SoCal D-I Championships on Sunday.
The Bears (33-3) will host seventh-seeded Beckman-Irvine at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round. Southern Section champ Loyola-Los Angeles (29-2) was the top seed.
In Division II, the Apaches (30-9) are the No. 3 seed and will see Southern Section runner-up and No. 6-seed Cathedral-Los Angeles in the first round.
The first-round winners will advance to the regional semifinals Thursday. The finals will be played Saturday at Edison High School in Huntington Beach.

- DIVISION II: No. 8 Mt. Carmel-San Diego at No. 1 Oak Park-Los Angeles; No. 7 Chatsworth at No. 2 Burroughs-Burbank; No. 6 Cathedral-Los Angeles at No. 3 Sanger; No. 5 Valley Christian-Cerritos at No. 4 La Jolla
- DIVISION III: No. 8 Sage Creek-Carlsbad at No. 1 Saddleback Valley Christian-San Juan Capistrano; No. 7 El Rancho-Pico Rivera at No. 2 Jordan-Los Angeles; No. 6 San Dieguito Academy-Encinitas at No. 3 Damien-La Verne; No. 5 Crean Lutheran-Irvine at No. 4 El Camino-Oceanside
Of note: Semifinals will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday at site of higher seeds. Championships will take place Saturday at Edison High School in Huntington Beach starting with D-III at 1 p.m., D-II at 3 p.m. and D-I at 5 p.m.
