Prep soccer: Playoff brackets set for SoCal Regionals
Four Fresno-area high school soccer teams and another seven from across the Central Section will continue their seasons at the CIF Southern California Regional Championships.
The Clovis East girls team topped the honors, claiming the top overall seed in Division I.
The unbeaten Timberwolves (20-0-3), fresh off winning their school’s first Valley championship in its 16-year history, host No. 8-seed Taft-Woodland Hills at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Back-to-back section D-II champs Madera South and D-III winner Liberty-Madera Ranchos will travel for their matches, earning the No. 6 seeds in their respective divisions. The Stallions will play in Woodland Hills against No. 3 El Camino Real and the Hawks will play at third-seeded San Luis Obispo.
Strathmore, No. 2 in D-IV, hosts No. 7 Northridge Academy.
Fowler, which won the section title due to a Bishop forfeit, is the No. 4 seed in D-V and hosts No. 5 Frazier Mountain.
For the boys, Central Section D-I three-peat champions Buchanan High earned the No. 3 seed in Division I and will host at least one match in the playoffs. The Bears (20-1-7), who are ranked No. 9 in the state by MaxPreps, host No. 6 Los Alamitos in the first round.
McLane, which recently won its first boys soccer title in the program’s 46-year history, was seeded fourth in D-IV and hosts No. 5 Garden Grove in the first round.
Bakersfield’s South High is the No. 4 seed in D-II and Ridgeview the eighth seed in D-III.
Central Section champions McFarland (D-V) and Mendota (D-VI) will face off in the state Division V first round. The fourth-seeded Cougars host the No. 5 Aztecs.
All first-round matches will be played at 4 p.m. Tuesday, though that is subject to change, according to the CIF website.
