Prep cross country: Madera South boys, Clovis North girls top rankings
Seven schools, including Madera South’s boys and Clovis North’s girls in Division I, are No. 1 in the Central Section preseason cross country rankings after winning division titles a year ago.
Others expected to repeat section championships are North Bakersfield (D-III), Avenal (D-IV) and Paramount Academy-Delano (D-V) in the boys and North Bakersfield (D-III) and Central Valley Christian (D-IV) in the girls.
In overall rankings, Madera South, Clovis and Shafter are 1-2-3 in the boys and Clovis North, Clovis West and defending state D-IV champion Central Valley Christian top the girls.
Madera South’s boys, seeking an eighth straight section title in three divisions – including a fourth in a row in D-I – return Bee All-Stars Eduardo Herrera, Miguel Villar and Michael Ochoa.
Herrera, The Bee’s Runner of the Year in 2013, and Villar placed 1-2 in D-I last season.
Clovis North’s girls, who snapped Buchanan’s streak of 14 consecutive D-I championships a year ago, return Bee Runner of the Year and defending champion Lauren Moffett and Bee All-Stars Lauren Lienau and Camilla Hanson.
Central Valley Christian’s girls bring back Bee All-Stars Gabby Satterlee, Shani Slabber and Jenna Wilson from a team that scored a perfect 15 in last year’s D-IV final. The trio placed 1-2-3 in that meet and, nine days later, also powered the Cavaliers to the state crown.
The section and state meets will return to Woodward Park Nov. 19 and 28.
