All is set for the CIF track and field state championships after the Central Section held the Masters Meet at Buchanan’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.

If Saturday’s results are any indication, the state finals could feature several familiar faces on the podium at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Buchanan’s Donovan Dunmore emerged as one of the section meet’s brightest stars, sweeping the boys sprint titles with victories in the 100 meters (10.37 seconds) and 200 meters (21.07).

Central East’s Sofia Lopes also delivered one of the meet’s top all-around performances, sweeping both hurdle races. Lopes won the 100-meter high hurdles in 14.08 before capturing the 300-meter low hurdles in 42.57.

Buchanan’s Karsyn Van Grouw positioned himself as a strong state title contender after headlining the throws competition with a massive discus mark of 201 feet, 7 inches.

Central East’s Emanuel Morgan and Dallen Williams helped power a dominant day for the Bengals in the sprint events. Morgan captured the boys 400-meter title in 47.40, while Williams added a third-place finish.

The Bengals later surged to victory in the 1,600-meter relay with a winning time of 3:13.86.

Buchanan claimed both the boys and girls team championships under head coach Brian Weaver.

According to section historian Bob Barnett, the girls program extended its streak to 11 consecutive section titles, while the boys earned their fifth straight championship. Weaver has now won 47 section titles, including cross country — the most in Central Section history.
