The Central High boys track and field had a good showing at the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays last week.

The Grizzlies finished fourth with a time of 3:14.14 in the 1600 relay. The Grizzlies placed behind Culver City, Servite and Wilson-Long Beach.

Running for Central were Isaac Villarreal, Brandon Smith, Xavier Jones and Emanuel Morgan.

The Grizzlies finished first earlier in the heat race, but couldn’t carry that over into the finals. At least 44 teams competed in the preliminaries in hopes of making it to the finals.

Central will look to redeem themselves when they compete in Saturday’s West Coast Relays at Buchanan’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Cost to enter the stadium is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students.

The meet will begin at 10 a.m.

Bob Barnett’s milestones

Section historian Bob Barnett releases each week what players and coaches achieved during the past week and noted Fresno softball player Kylee Sanchez.

He said Sanchez had 12 RBI that tied a section record. She also set two school records when she was 6 for 6 and scored five times, and also hit two home runs. She also had a double, triple in a 29-9 victory over Mendota.

On the baseball side, Barnett said Sierra High senior Micah Goodman reached 100 career hits in a 9-2 loss to Caruthers.
