High school baseball: No-hitter thrown in opener of Central Section playoffs, plus scores

The start of the Central Section high school baseball playoffs got underway with a surprise and a no-hitter.

El Diamante pitcher Jordan Ryner dazzled on the mound when he pitched a no-hitter with four strikeouts in the 16th seed Miners’ 2-0 victory over top-seed Pioneer Valley in Division III.

Colin Horton drove in a run for El Diamante in the top of the eighth inning. Troy Loftin and Aden Robles each scored a run for the Miners.

El Diamante will next visit No. 8 Edison in a quarterfinal game on Thursday.

In Division I, No. 3 Clovis was ousted by No. 14 Madera, 6-5.

The Coyotes scored five times in the fifth inning.
