Clovis High wins Central Section boys volleyball title over Sanger. ‘Group never stopped’

It seemed like a long time coming for the Clovis High boys volleyball team.
Cougars coach Rich Lake is fine by that.
The second-seeded Cougars went into a hostile environment Thursday and claimed the Central Section Division I championship in a four-set win over top-seed Sanger.
“This group never stopped,” Lake said. “We knew we were going to be in the hunt, but we’re pretty young. We only got two returning starters. We had a good young group. We had a great fall with our club season and knew we would be battling with teams.”
The Cougars dominated the Tri-River Athletic Conference and finished with a 9-1 record, with their only loss coming against Clovis West.
After the loss, Clovis won the next four, including the championship match.
The Cougars were led all season by junior Justin Moua, who totaled 307 kills.
The victory gave Clovis its first section title since 2019 when the Cougars defeated Clovis East in four sets.
“They earned everything they did this year,” Lake said. “Every day was just a great day as far as coming in and working hard and putting that effort forward.”
The Clovis roster consisted of Moua, Joel Toves, Cesar Martinez, William Johnson, Juan Garcia, Tyler Southavongsa, Trey Alexander, Jackson Scarborough, Aiden Insyarath, Ethan Tofan, Markus Sevilla, Colby Dyer, Krue Burback and Mason Herr.
