High school basketball: A surprise team near the top of The Bee’s top 25 boys and girls rankings?

The Bee published its first high school basketball rankings in mid-November and a lot has changed in boys and girls.

Except the top two spots in the boys rankings where St. Joseph still leads the way with a 10-0 record, capped by an impressive 74-60 win over Lincoln Park-Pa. this past week.

No. 2 Clovis West lost the past three games to out-of-state teams at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas.

Next up for the Golden Eagles is a trip to Mesa, Ariz. for the Mesa Basketball Challenge this week.

No. 3 Clovis North won the Mission Prep Christmas Classic after defeating Woodinville-Wash. 67-49.

No. 5 Buchanan, under Tom Orlich, are 11-2 in the young season. Last season, the Bears finished 8-17.

This week, Buchanan will play in the 43rd Clovis Elks Classic.

On the girls side, Clovis West remains the top team in the Central Section.

Earlier this month, the Golden Eagles traveled to Hawaii to play in the Nike Iolani Classic and went 2-1.

Clovis West will head to Portland, Ore. this week to compete in the Nike POA Holiday Classic.

No. 5 Buchanan went 2-1 in the Old Town Clovis Kiwanis Tournament. No. 4 Monache went undefeated at 3-0.
