Final Fresno-area softball high school softball teams fall in CIF regional semifinals

The last three Fresno-area high school teams standing in the CIF regionals lost in semifinals Thursday.

The Central, Bullard and Fowler softball teams were the only ones out of 10 Fresno-area teams to win quarterfinals Tuesday in the softball and baseball playoffs.

Softball

Both teams from Saturday’s Central Section Division I championship game will host Tuesday.

Central, which came away with a 4-2 victory over Bullard at Margie Wright Diamond, is seeded third and will host No. 6 California-San Ramon in a Northern California Division I game.

California defeated San Ramon Valley 5-1 for the North Coast Division I championship.

No. 4 Bullard will host No. 5 Monterey in NorCal Division II.

No. 7 Madera is coming off a 4-2 victory over Frontier in the Division II championship. The seventh-seeded Coyotes will visit No. 2 Central Catholic-Modesto in NorCal Division III. The Raiders lost to Ponderosa 1-0 in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship.

No. 2 Fowler will host in the NorCal Division IV playoffs. The Redcats will face No. 7 Summerville-Tuolumne. The Bears defeated Riverbank in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI championship.

Central Section D-IV champion Orange Cove will hit the road to play No. 2 Fullerton in SoCal Division III.

The Titans beat Mission Prep 4-0 on Saturday at Fresno State.

The Indians are coming off a 5-3 loss to Foothill-Santa Ana in the Southern Section Division IV championship.

Baseball

Fresh off Kingsburg ending its 20-year title drought, the Vikings will play in front of their fans in the NorCal regionals.

The top-seeded Vikings will play No. 8 Bellarmine College Prep-San Jose in Division II.

Kingsburg defeated Dos Palos 7-5 in the Central Section Division III championship in Visalia.

The Prep Bells held off Leigh-San Jose 2-0 for the Central Coast Division II championship.

No. 7 Buchanan will look to recover from its stunning 4-3 loss to Centennial in the Central Section Division I final when the Bears visit No. 2 De La Salle-Concord in NorCal Division I.

The Bears were one out away from winning a section title before a three-run home run ended those hopes.

The Spartans beat Clayton Valley Charter 7-3 in the North Coast Division I championship.

In NorCal Division V, No. 8 Firebaugh plays at No. 1 Ripon Christian.

The Eagles won the Central Section Division V championship with a 4-1 victory over East Bakersfield. The Knights rolled to an 11-3 victory over Turlock Christian in the Sac-Joaquin Division VII championship.

After a long section title drought, No. 6 Woodlake will play in the SoCal Division V and will visit Ganesha-Pomona.

The Tigers defeated Orange Cove 7-0 in Division VI for their first section title since 1982.

The Giants blanked Fillmore 7-0 in the Southern Section Division VII championship.
