City/County All-Star games in Fresno area: First tie in a long time in football
The 68th City/County All-Star high school football game ended in a 21-21 tie on Friday evening, but that is OK to the players and coaches who participated in front of a packed crowd at McLane Stadium in Fresno.
It is the first time since 1972 that the game ended in a tie.
Still, it was a lot of fun for the players who will head off to their next chapter in college whether it’s football or other sports.
Also on the minds of the players and coaches was Rocky Reyes of Buchanan who was honored at the game for his battle with cancer. He was at home and recovering.
Just last week, Reyes met with Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr at Valley Children’s Hospital.
Buchanan’s Caden Rodgers was named the County Most Valuable Player and the City MVP went to Paul Sharp of Clovis North.
Rodgers’ touchdown in the third quarter tied the game at 21.
Also scoring touchdowns in the game were Myles Lee (Edison) for the City; Roland Russo (Bullard) to Logan Wattenbarger (Madera) for the City; Brandon Keene (Sunnyside) to Jayden Davis (Bullard) 62-yard touchdown reception for the City; Jacob Silva (Mendota) for the County; and Rodgers with a 10-yard run in the first quarter.
