Colby Hatton and Olivia Sundgren of Buchanan High placed in the top three in their respective events at the California Interscholastic Federation State Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Clovis Olympic Swim Complex at Clovis West.

Hatton placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.04. Ethan Harrington of Palo Alto won in 43.60.

Sundgren was third in the 500 free. Her time was 4:51.73, with Claire Tuggle of St. Joseph-Santa Maria posting the best finish in 4:44.88. Abby O’Sullivan of St. Mary’s-Stockton was second in 4:50.76.

Tuggle swam for Clovis North in 2019 and won the 500 free that year as a freshman.

She committed in 2021 to swim for University of Virginia.

She and her family reportedly moved in early 2020 when schools shut down because of the coronavirus.

The Buchanan boys 200 free relay team, meanwhile, came in third behind Northgate and Palo Alto.

The Bears finished seventh in the overall team standings.
