No. 8 seed Reedley High is in the Central Section Division I boys soccer championship.

Gustavo Ledeszma scored on a free kick in the 99th minute when the ball crossed into the box in front of his teammates from 35 yards to give the Pirates a 2-1 victory over No. 4 Clovis North in a semifinal on Tuesday.

“We’ve been playing well and these boys deserved it,” Reedley coach Eric Velarde said. “They stepped up over the last month and really came together as a team to get us into the finals.”

Esteban Baca gave Reedley a 1-0 lead before the Broncos tied the match in the second half.

Reedley’s road to the final included a 3-0 victory over top-seed Central.

“We knew that we can compete with anybody and we wanted to prove that,” Velarde said. “I think the boys understood that. It doesn’t matter if we’re a small school. We believe in ourselves and that’s been the mentality for the last few years.”
