TRAC teams slide to lower divisions for high school playoffs? How placement looks

high school sports placeholder image

A new computer system determines the Central Section high school playoffs this season and girls volleyball and girls tennis found out what that means.

Seedings are set by performance and strength of schedule with the top eight teams playing in Division I and the others added in seeding order to the remaining playoff divisions. (In other words, the top seed in Division II is the No. 9 overall seed and so on.)

That left some Tri-River Athletic Conference teams in lower divisions in an unusual format.

For instance: Central finished 4-6 in TRAC volleyball and was placed in Division II as the No. 2 seed and Buchanan, which finished winless in the TRAC with a 6-22 overall record, was placed in Division III and is the sixth seed there.

Clovis West claimed the TRAC volleyball title ahead of Clovis North. Those teams are Nos. 1 and 2 overall, respectively.

The section playoffs begin Tuesday for volleyball and tennis.

Other volleyball top seeds include Stockdale (D-II), Tulare Western (D-III), Caruthers (D-IV ) and Taft (D-V).

The girls tennis top seeds are Clovis North (D-I), Sanger (D-II), Central (D-III), Templeton (D-IV) and Morro Bay (D-V).
