Clovis’ Johnson a double winner at Central Section track meet and commits to Utah football
NOTE: Full results, including team scores, weren’t available when the results were published Sunday.
High school track and field athletes from the Central Section converged at Buchanan High’s Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday for the Masters meet.
Of those athletes, Clovis’ Nate Johnson had a week to remember when the senior-to-be announced that he verbally committed to play college football at Utah.
A day later, Johnson took first in the 100 meters and long jump.
Central’s Jeremiah Walker won the 200 and 400 and ran a leg on the first-place 400 and 1600 relay.
Buchanan’s Lauren Fowler won the girls 100 by nearly a half-second and ran a leg on the first-place 400 relay.
The Central boys teams won the Masters with 102 points, finishing ahead of Clovis’ 101.33.
Buchanan girls finished on top with 154 points. Clovis North was second with 104.
Because of pandemic uncertainty, the California Interscholastic Federation isn’t presenting the annual state meet at Buchanan. Some track and field athletes will head to Southern California June 25-26 to competed in the USAF-sanctioned two-day “state meet” at Arcadia High.
