Girls tennis team playoffs set
Just like soccer, semifinals will go on this week in girls tennis, but a championship will take place Tuesday.
Top-seed Sanger hosted No. 3 El Diamante for the Division II championship and the Apaches won back-to-back titles with a 5-1 victory.
The Apaches got to the championship with a 6-3 win over No. 5 Central. The Miners swept No. 2 Templeton 9-0.
No. 1 Mt. Whitney defeated No. 2 Central Valley Christian 5-1 for the Division III championship

Soto sets record
Strathmore High girls basketball star Jazmine Soto is now the Central Section leader in most points scored in a career.
After two games last week, Soto passed Nikki Blue of West Bakersfield, who had 2,958 points, according to section historian Bob Barnett.
Soto now has 3,060 points and needs 21 points to move into the 12th spot in state history.
Sanger Metric Classic double winners
Buchanan’s Alexa Dandridge and Lauren Fowler and Clovis’ Nathan Johnson were double winners at the Sanger Metric Classic on Friday.
Dandridge finished first in the 100 high hurdles (14.86) and 300 low hurdles (44.52).
Fowler took the 100-meter dash in 11.74, a meet record, and long jump (19-01.00).
Johnson, meanwhile, was blazing fast in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 10.52. He also placed first in the 200-meter dash, breezing to a time of 21.55, a meet record.
Other records: Clovis North’s Cyprus Rice in the pole vault (16-01.00); Clovis’ Sydnie Vanek in 200-meter dash (24.80); Clovis North’s Takiya Cenci in the 400 (55.10) and Sydney Sundgren of Buchanan in the 1,600 in 4:51.91.
Buchanan girls placed first with 211 points and Central was the winner on the boys side with 117 points.
The section championships begin June 9 at different locations.
Swimming and diving meet
Clovis West will host the Central Section Division I meets this week.
The diving portion will get underway at 9:30 a.m. Thursday with the swim meet taking place at 1 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Division II will be held at the Kern District Aquatic Center this weekend.
Tickets may be limited.

Just like the City/County All-Star baseball and football games, softball is also returning.
The All-Star game is set for June 23 (a change from the originally announced June 30) and will be played at Washington Union.
First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
Athlete of the Week named
Gabriella Avila of Corcoran basketball and Devon Daniel of Kerman baseball are last week’s winners of The Bee’s Athlete of the Week polls.
Avila won the girls poll with 44%. Second was Laci Rose of Kings Christian basketball with 33.4% and Jazmine Soto of Strathmore had 20.4%.
Daniel won with 53.1% ahead of Omarion Thomas-Marshall of Bullard basketball who totaled 31.8% and Carson Stephens of Liberty-Madera Ranchos basketball who had 9.3%.
