What a finish! Central High boys rally past Sunnyside for date with Bullard at Selland

Cash Williams drilled his free throws with 21.6 seconds remaining in overtime to give fifth-seed Central an 81-78 victory over No. 9 Sunnyside in a Central Section Division I boys basketball semifinal on Thursday .

The two-time defending section champions advance to the championship to face No. 2 Bullard at Selland Arena at 8 p.m. Saturday.

The Knights defeated No. 3 Bakersfield 58-55.

Central rallied twice late in the game, first when Jahmai Bartley saved the season with a jumper as time expired to send the game to overtime.

Sunnyside led 77-73 in overtime after an Amari Stroud dunk with 1:34 remaining.

The Grizzlies rallied on Bartley’s basket and Cam’ron Wilson’s 3-pointer with 1:15 remaining for a 78-77 lead. Stroud made 1 of 2 free throws with 44.6 seconds remaining before Williams nailed his free throws.

Sunnyside’s Cinderella season comes to an an end at 20-11. The Wildcats’ run in the playoffs included wins over No. 8 Buchanan 68-58 and top-seed Clovis West 70-56.
