Section sends 14 volleyball teams to CIF SoCal Regionals

The Central Section will send 14 girls volleyball teams into the Southern California Regionals as part of the expanded CIF State playoffs.

Section Division I champion Liberty-Bakersfield will play in the first Open Division bracket, where the eighth-seeded Patriots (25-7) will play at No. 1 Santa Margarita (31-4) at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Division’s I, II, III, IV and V are set to open at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with section D-I runner-up Clovis West and semifinalists Central and Clovis making the SoCal Regional’s 16-team bracket.

The No. 7 Golden Eagles (34-10) are hosting No. 10 Beckman-Irvine (25-12); while the No. 13 Grizzlies (33-11) are at No. 4 Ventura (34-2) and the No. 13 Cougars (34-10) are at Lakewood (30-5).

In D-II, section champ and ninth-seeded Garces (22-10) is at No. 8 Sierra Canyon-Chatsworth (30-3), while No. 13 Exeter plays at No. 4 Glendora (24-8).

Section champ Bakersfield Christian (34-1) drew the top seed in D-III and will host No. 16 Santa Ynez (21-2), while No. 5 Mission Oak (29-8) hosts No. 12 Woodcrest Christian-Riverside (17-10).

In D-IV, section champ Minarets (28-7) plays at No. 6 Ontario Christian (20-6), No. 13 Sierra (27-5) is at Loma Linda Academy (23-4) and No. 14 Taft (27-6-3) plays at No. 3 Notre Dame-Riverside (27-10).

And in D-V, section champ Immanuel (23-15) hosts Poly-Sun Valley (20-6-2), No. 6 Frazier Mountain (30-4) hosts No. 11 Lake Arrowhead Christian (22-9-1) and No. 14 California City (18-9-4) is at Upland Christian Academy (24-6).

Girls tennis – Section Division I champion Clovis North will face Harvard Westlake-Studio City in the opening round of the CIF Southern California Regional girls tennis championships.

The Broncos and Wolverines are set to play at 10:45 a.m. Friday at the Claremont Club in Claremont.

The winner advances to the semifinals at 1:45 and the final is set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
