The 2016 Fresno State football schedule came into better focus Monday when the Mountain West Conference announced television plans that include two Friday night games at Bulldog Stadium.

Fresno State will play San Diego State on Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network. And the Bulldogs’ Friday, Oct. 28, game against Air Force will start at 7:30 p.m. and be televised on ESPN2.

The Fresno State athletic department will be compensated for moving one of those games. Because it’s on ESPN2, the Bulldogs will receive a $300,000 bonus for shifting the Air Force game to a Friday night. No bonus is awarded for games televised by CBSSN.

Between ESPN and CBSSN, at least 44 MW football games will be televised in 2016 on various national platforms. Additional games could be announced in the future.

Season tickets are on sale now, but as of late last week, the renewal rate was down from 2015. To spur interest in premium “red” seats on the stadium’s west side, the minimum donation level has been lowered to $150 for sections 9 and 13 and $250 for sections 10 and 12.

Baseball – Fresno State sophomore Ricky Tyler Thomas was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week after the left-hander fired his first career shutout against San Jose State on Friday.

Starting the series opener, Thomas limited the Spartans to two hits (both singles) in the Bulldogs’ 6-0 victory at Beiden Field. Thomas issued no walks and had four strikeouts in an 87-pitch outing.

This is Thomas’ second career MW Pitcher of the Week honor and the fifth time this season a Bulldogs pitcher has earned the weekly award.

Fresno State (26-15, 14-7 MW) next plays Sacramento State (24-15) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Raley Field before going to Air Force (20-16, 9-10 MW) for a three-game conference series Friday through Sunday.

Women’s golf – Kristin Simonsen, who finished tied for 10th at the MW Championships last week, earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Championships. The freshman from Bergen, Norway, will play in the Stanford Regional on May 5-7.
