Fresno State’s conduct-review committee has heard the cases of quarterback Zack Greenlee, outside linebacker Brandon Hughes and women’s soccer player Fanny Johansson and Wednesday forwarded a recommendation to athletic director Jim Bartko.

But that recommendation remained confidential, leaving in limbo the status of Greenlee and Hughes for Saturday’s game at San Jose State.

All three athletes were arrested at a house party early Sunday, hours after the football team lost to then-No. 21 Utah. No charges have been filed.

Bartko on Wednesday later met with university President Dr. Joseph Castro. Bartko declined questions from The Bee, but did issue a statement.

“We take all cases seriously and will handle matters internally,” Bartko said. “With review from our student-athlete code of conduct, we will make a decision and will have no further comments after that.”

Greenlee, who does not turn 21 until January, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and drinking in public. Hughes, who arrived after Greenlee had been arrested, was accused of obstructing officers in the performance of their duties/resisting arrest. Johansson was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and obstruction/resisting arrest.

Coach Tim DeRuyter continues to say a decision on the playing status of Greenlee and Hughes won’t be revealed until Saturday, with the Bulldogs visiting the Spartans that night for Fresno State’s Mountain West Conference opener.

Greenlee, if allowed, is in line for the bulk of the playing time behind center with freshman Chason Virgil out for the season. Junior transfer Ford Childress has played in only one of the first three games, with Greenlee and Virgil combining to throw 102 of the 104 passes the team has attempted.

“We’re not going to make an announcement on anything that’s going to happen, whether he’s playing or not playing, until Saturday,” DeRuyter said.
