When it comes to football coaches in new Pac-12, who is spending what on whom?
Washington State reportedly will pay new football coach Kirby Moore $2 million a year in a five-year contract, which puts him near the top of a rebuilding Pac-12 Conference.
That’s a solid deal for Moore, who landed his first on-field coaching position at the Division I level at Fresno State in 2017, coaching the wideouts under coach Jeff Tedford.
Colorado State coach Jim Mora will be the highest paid football coach in the conference. Here is a look at what the Pac-12 schools will pay their football coaches:
Jim Mora, Colorado State: $2.4 million
Division I record: 73-53, .579
Rams: 0-0
Spencer Danielson, Boise State: $2.1 million
Division I record: 24-8, .750
Broncos: 24-8, .750
Bronco Mendenhall, Utah State: $2.06 million
Division I record: 146-94, .608
Aggies: 6-6, .500
G.J. Kinne, Texas State: $2 million
Division I record: 34-18, .654
Bobcats: 22-16, .579
Kirby Moore, Washington State: $2 million
Division I record: 0-0
Cougars: 0-0:
Sean Lewis, San Diego State: $1.95 million
Division I record: 36-43, .456
Aztecs: 12-12, .500
JaMarcus Shephard, Oregon State: $1.6 million
Division I record: 0-0
Beavers: 0-0
Matt Entz, Fresno State: $1.35 million
Division I record: 68-15, .819
Bulldogs: 8-4, .667
Entz, who led the Bulldogs to am 8-4 regular-season despite an inefficient offense that lack much explosiveness, would not be the highest paid or lowest paid coach in the Mountain West.
UNLV is paying Dan Mullen $3.5 million a year and New Mexico coach gave Jason Eck a solid bump in pay after leading the Lobos to a 9-3 regular season, their first winning season since 2016, a run that included three two-win seasons and three three-win seasons. Eck next season will be paid $1.55 million.
The Pac-12 coaches are well behind the Power Four conferences including the Big 12 and Atlantic Coast Conference — eight coaches in the Big 12 and five in the ACC were paid $5 million or more this season. But they in line at the top of Group of Six leagues with the American Athletic Conference, which this season has four coaches making $2 million or more.
