  • Bulldogs expanded geographic reach in recruiting ahead of 2026 Pac-12 move.

As Fresno State football prepares for the 2025 college football season, recruiting was a big emphasis for the Bulldogs, just like for any school.

First-year Fresno State coach Matt Entz and his coaching staff hit the recruiting road and received some 2026 commitments along the way.

That includes two local players in Redwood High linebacker Zephaniah Sesay and Tulare Union wide receiver Franklin Lockard.

Sesay made his decision June 14. He also had offers from Syracuse, Colorado State, New Mexico and UNLV.

Sesay played his junior year at Hanford High where he made 52 tackles, including three tackles for loss. He also had a pass deflection. He is playing his senior year at Redwood High.

Lockard also committed June 14. He had 341 receiving yards and three touchdowns last fall.

But the biggest commit the Bulldogs received is from Narbonne-Harbor City wide receiver Xavier Owens, who has numerous Power 4 schools offering him and is a high 3-star recruit by 247 Sports.

According to 247 Sports, Owens is a hard commit for Fresno State and was recruited by former Bulldogs wide receiver DelVon Hardaway.

Of course, the biggest worry is other school’s trying to flip the student-athletes.

“I like what Fresno State has done in this class — obviously, Xavier Owens is the headliner, but I love the pickup of Zephaniah Sesay at linebacker and Josh Haney, and wouldn’t be surprised if more Power 4 schools tried to flip them come fall,” said Brandon Huffman, national recruiting editor for 247 Sports.

“They’ve done a good job at the receiver position and along both the offensive and defensive line. I also like what they’ve done geographically, kind of casting a wider net than normal.”

The heavy emphasis for the Bulldogs was to load up at wide receiver by getting five players to commit. If those players hang on to their commitment, it’s a boost for the Bulldogs, as they will be entering the Pac-12 in 2026 under Entz.

Fresno State has 14 wide receivers currently on the roster with two of them seniors. It is quite possible some of the current WRs will redshirt this season.

Others pledging their commitment: DE Jake Plummer of Christian Brothers-St. Louis; LB Jaydon Sutko of Elkhorn South-Omaha, Neb.; OT Alex Rivera of Lovington-Lovington, New Mexico; DE Solomon Baker of Millard South of Omaha, Neb; WR Cameron Vasquez of Bishop Amat-La Puente; CB Isaiah Lucero of Northview-Covina; QB Jacob Chambers of Rancho Cucamonga; OL Efren Siuloa of West-Salt Lake City; Ath Jhadis Luckey of California-San Ramon; WR Bryce McDaniel of Hughson; WR Maxwell Young of Western-Anaheim; Ath Robert Lucero of Northview-Covina; OL Asher Bancroft of Chaparral-Temecula; DE Cade Holles, Cherry Creek-Englewood, Colo. DE Cooper Willoughby of Viewmont-Bountiful, Utah; Ath Chase Perino of Central Catholic-Modesto and TE Dallas Gaius-Anyaegbu.
