Fresno State fall camp profile: OLB Kyrian Obidiegwu
A closer look at Fresno State outside linebacker Kyrian Obidiegwu.
▪ Year: Senior
▪ Height/weight: 5-11/214
▪ Hometown: Hayward
▪ High school: San Leandro
▪ 2014 review: Played every game, seeing action mostly on special teams. … Finished with three tackles. … Forced fumble against San Diego – the first of his career. … Became first Bulldog since 2012 to block a punt that led to a touchdown, doing so against Southern Utah. … This season, makes switch from defensive back to outside linebacker.
▪ What they’re saying: “He’s been a DB for us the last three years and made the move from outside linebacker for us in the spring. He’s just learning the system, and he’s a smart kid. It’s happening fast and he’s doing a great job keeping up with it. Again, he hasn’t played the position for very long and he’s making nice strides right now and as long as he continues to make the progress he is making he’ll be seeing some playing time on defense.” – OLB coach Jordan Peterson
▪ Obidiegwu on 2015 outlook: “Any way I can help the team, I’ll move there. I know the defense pretty good, so the switch is not too bad. I just have to get more refined on the pass rushing. So far it’s been pretty good. As the season goes along I plan to help any way I can. As long as I keep working and the team keeps working, we should be pretty good. Right now I like (the switch) … just getting more disciplined, working on my technique and getting my eyes right and I’ll be fine.”
