Fresno State fall camp profile: DB Shannon Edwards
A closer look at Fresno State defensive back Shannon Edwards.
▪ Year: Senior
▪ Height/weight: 5-10/189
▪ Hometown: Bakersfield
▪ High school: Ridgeview
▪ 2014 review: Compiled 27 tackles, one tackle for a loss, two fumble recoveries, three pass breakups and a sack in 13 games. Had a career-high seven tackles against Nebraska.
▪ What they’re saying: “He really attacked his rehab well and had a great offseason as far as this summer and he is a lot more confident in his shoulder. Just coming off his surgery, he’s a lot more confident. He’s stronger and faster and he’s a guy who obviously played a lot of football for Fresno State, so his knowledge as far as the scheme of things is out of the roof. He’s become more of a leader and that’s what I'm excited about. He had a phenomenal summer as far as preparation so right now I’m expecting big things from him. So far, so good up to this point.” — DB coach Marcus Woodson
▪ Edwards on 2015 outlook: “I want our whole secondary to step up to another level this year and be kind of like we were the first year I was here. We had like 24 takeaways, I don’t really remember the exact number. I bring a different type of leadership. I’m not a vocal leader but I’ll pull the guy to the side and talk to him and tell him what he needs to do. Pretty much help him out and the young guys out so they can develop into great football players.”
