Fresno State will introduce Jeff Tedford as its new football coach at a news conference on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. It is a second go-round for the Bulldogs’ former quarterback, assistant coach, coordinator and head coach, just like Jim Sweeney, the coach he played for at Fresno State.

Sweeney led the Bulldogs in 1976 and ‘77 before moving to the NFL to be an assistant with the Raiders and St. Louis Cardinals, before returning to Fresno State in 1980 for a highly successful 17-year run.

Tedford returns after stepping away from the position at the end of the 2019 season due to heart-related health issues, but into a much better spot than when first hired in November 2016.

The Bulldogs then were coming off a 1-11 season, the third of three losing seasons in a row. Tedford turned it around as quickly as flipping a light switch. Fresno State was 10-4 in his first season and 12-2 with a Mountain West Conference championship in his second, becoming the first team in history to go from double-digit losses one season to double-digit wins in the next two.

Here is a look back at his introductory press conference in 2016.
