Five arrested during Fresno State football game from alcohol-fueled incidents
Three fights broke out, including one involving at least 10 people, during Fresno State’s football game Saturday at Bulldog Stadium.
Five individuals were arrested in Fresno State’s 40-14 loss to Boise State that was played before a sellout crowd.
All of the incidents were alcohol-related and happened on the northeast end of the stadium, according to Fresno State Police Sgt. Carlos Frausto, who is the officer in charge during football games.
In one video that captured a fight, a couple of people fall at least five feet from the stands and onto the concrete concourse in front of a stadium worker. Eventually, the action spills onto the field just beyond the back of the north end zone, where police pinned the man to the ground.
Among the arrests, one felony was committed.
That stemmed from the fight involving at least 10 people on the ramp at the north end of the stadium.
That fight also was the last of the three incidents on the night.
“During the course of that disturbance, one of the subjects that was fighting was being taken into custody by a Fresno Police officer,” Frausto said. “And the father of the individual that was being taken into custody pulled that officer away from his son, impeding the officer’s efforts to arrest this individual.
“He was arrested as a result of that. ... Impeding a police officer during the performance of his duties ... is a felony.”
In addition to the father and son who were arrested, two others were detained, including one for public intoxication, Frausto added.
A fifth person was arrested in an earlier disturbance that spilled onto the field. The man required medical attention due to severe intoxication, Frausto said.
That man was arrested and released to a family member to seek further medical attention.
“This is probably the most active that we’ve been in our games this year,” Frausto said. “Fortunately, we were there in time to prevent any further injury to anybody.
“The lucky part is nobody was injured as a result of any of these disturbances due to the quick response from our personnel, the Fresno Police Department, who are here to assist us during this event, as well as the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.”
The announced crowd of 41,043 was the first Fresno State sellout since 2014.
Fresno State trailed throughout Saturday’s game.
