DeBoer completes Bulldogs’ on-field football staff with two hires
Fresno State coach Kalen DeBoer has filled out his on-field staff of position coaches, hiring Paul Creighton to coach tight ends and Julius Brown to coach the “Huskies” in their 4-2-5 defense and also be the recruiting coordinator.
Creighton comes to Fresno State from UC Davis, where he spent six season and in 2019 was the tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. Before UC Davis, he was the defensive line coach for three years at Colorado State-Pueblo, where he coached three future pros in Darius Allen (CFL) Morgan Fox (L.A. Rams) and Mike Pennel (Packers, Jets).
Brown the past four seasons has coached cornerbacks under coach Matt Wells, last season at Texas Tech and from 2016 to ‘18 at Utah State. The Stockton native played and also coached at Boise State, earning honorable mention All-Western Athletic Conference honors as a senior in 2003 when leading the league in passes defended.
The Bulldogs’ “Huskies” position in the 4-2-5 is a hybrid strong side linebacker/safety.
The Bulldogs this week finalized the hires of defensive coordinator William Inge, safeties coach Chuck Morrell, defensive line coach Eric Schmidt and running backs coach Lee Marks.
DeBoer also is retaining offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, assistant offensive line coach Roman Sapolu, receivers coach Kirby Moore and on the defensive side of the ball cornerbacks coach J.D. Williams.
