Derek Carr reacts to alma mater Fresno State reaching national rankings

Derek Carr is happy for the Fresno State football team.

Not only because the Bulldogs rolled past Hawaii 50-20 on Saturday, but the Bulldogs appeared in both national rankings on Sunday for the first time since 2013.

When he found out the Bulldogs cracked the Associated Press and Coaches Top 25 polls on Sunday, he said he was excited for coach Jeff Tedford and the team.

“I’m super proud of our guys in Fresno for being ranked,” Carr said Sunday. “I know their mindset, they’re not done yet. Hopefully they keep winning and keep climbing the rankings. It’s fun for me to watch and I stay up as much as I can until I got to bed, and it’s fun to follow them and I’m proud of those guys.”

It is the first national ranking in both polls since Carr helped lead the Bulldogs to the rankings after a 24-17 victory over Utah State in the Mountain West championship at Bulldog Stadium.

Fresno State was ranked in the AP Top 25 in Week 14 last season after finishing the regular season 9-3.
