The Fresno State men’s basketball team hits the road for the first time this season Sunday, putting its unbeaten record on the line against Rice.

The Bulldogs are averaging 75.7 points per game coming off a 78-71 victory against USF on Thursday at Save Mart Center that gave them their first 3-0 start to a season since 2006.

Fresno State is led by Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year Marvelle Harris, who is averaging 19.3 points per game. He also leads the MW in steals (3.0) and is second with 5.0 assists. Junior forward Torren Jones is second on the team at 12.7 points per game and leads the league with 11.3 rebounds a game. Senior guard Cezar Guerrero is averaging 10.3 points and is second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.538).

The Owls are on the opposite end of the spectrum record-wise, starting 0-3 after setbacks at Cal (97-65) and USF (80-54) and a home loss to Oregon State (77-69). The Owls are led by Egor Koulechov (17.3 ppg/7.7 rpg) and Marcus Evans (16.7 ppg).

Rice and Fresno State will meet for the 18th time and the first time since 2005. All 17 meetings came while the teams were members of the Western Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs lead the series 11-6, but Rice has won the past five games.

The Bulldogs return to Save Mart Center to face Delaware State at 7 p.m. Friday.
