Fresno State gets stuck in another scoring drought, losing at North Texas
As anyone in the San Joaquin Valley can attest, droughts are rough. Fresno State men’s basketball coach Justin Hutson continues to get reminders anyway, the latest in a 61-52 loss Saturday at North Texas.
The Bulldogs were down one with 7:14 to go when forward Leo Colimerio knocked down a jump shot, but they could make just one more field goal the rest of the way.
Fresno State (1-3) missed its next three shots with two turnovers before Isaih Moore hit a jumper, then missed its final four shots with one turnover.
Jordan Campbell led the Bulldogs with 14 points, hitting 4 of 8 shots. Guard Jemarl Baker added 12 and Moore had 11. But Campbell got just one shot through the final 17 minutes, that a meaningless three with 2 seconds remaining.
Baker did not get a shot for the final 9:23 and Moore had the one through the final 8:14.
Point guard Isaiah Hill, who was 1 of 16 in a loss to San Francisco, instead took four of the Bulldogs’ final eight shots, missing a jump shot, missing a three, missing another jump shot and missing another three. Hill was 2 of 9 with no assists and three turnovers in 28 minutes.
Fresno State, which has lost three games in a row and failed to score more than 60 points in any of them, plays Washington on Wednesday in the Wooden Legacy at the Anaheim Arena.
