The Fresno State women’s basketball team, the preseason favorite to win the Mountain West championship, postponed its next two conference games due to COVID-19 issues within the program.

The Bulldogs’ Jan. 3 game at San Jose State and Jan. 6 game at home against Colorado State are off for now, and if unable to be rescheduled will be declared no-contests. The Fresno State men had their game against Air Force at the Save Mart Center on New Year’s Day postponed due to COVID-19 issues, as well.

Under the conference’s adjusted COVID-19 game cancellation policy for men’s and women’s basketball, a minimum of seven student-athletes and one countable coach must be available for a school to play a game.

If a team has a requisite number of players and chooses not to play the game shall be canceled and declared a forfeit, with a loss to the team that opts not to play and a win for the scheduled opponent in the conference standings and determining seeding for the Mountain West Tournament in March.

The Bulldogs women (5-8) are 1-1 in conference play, bouncing back from an opening loss to UNLV to take down San Diego State 73-67 on New year’s Eve.

Haley Cavinder, the reigning Mountain West player of the year, is leading the conference in scoring and rebounding at 18.5 points per game and 9.4 boards per game.
