Fresno State fans awaiting the Bulldogs’ return to the field, court, diamond, mat and pool after the coronoavirus pandemic have something else to look forward to.

The high-definition video boards ticketed for the Save Mart Center, a project that has been in the works since the summer of 2017, have been installed, giving Fresno State an opportunity to enhance fan experience at its basketball games and wrestling and volleyball matches with HD replays, graphics and features.

“What a difference,” said Sean McElhinnney, general manager of the Save Mart Center. “It’s night and day. All that trussing that was on the sides of the video boards, that’s all gone. It’s definitely a welcome addition.

“I’m sure athletics will be champing at the bit to use the thing. It’s so much crisper, and the resolution is dramatically different.”

The video board project had stalled while the Save Mart Center focused on maintenance and upgrades to other areas of the arena, which opened in 2003.

The video boards were to be installed late in the basketball season, but it was pushed back to April to not disrupt Bulldogs’ games, practices or the Save Mart Center concert and event schedule.
