One of Fresno State’s best players suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to team
Fresno State forward Nate Grimes has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team and did not play Saturday during the Bulldogs’ 87-53 loss to Boise State at the Save Mart Center.
The 6-foot-8 senior could miss one or two games, a source said, due to an incident Wednesday following the Bulldogs’ 86-68 loss at Colorado State.
Grimes matched a career-high with 23 points in that game, hitting 9 of 16 shots, including a career-best four 3-pointers. He also had nine rebounds, two blocked shots and one steal in what was the Bulldogs’ sixth loss in eight Mountain West Conference games.
The Bulldogs already played two games this season without Grimes, who sat out a loss at San Diego State and a victory over San Jose State due to a wrist injury.
Grimes is ranked third in the conference in rebounding (9.5 per game), but Fresno State still managed to out-rebound San Diego State (33-30) and San Jose State (34-31) when Grimes was missing.
Meanwhile, Fresno State freshman guard Anthony Holland returned Saturday after missing the Colorado State game. He logged 12 minutes against Boise State and shot 0 for 2 with no points and two rebounds.
Holland had been playing in his best stretch of basketball when he went down, averaging 33.8 minutes over four games with 6.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
