The Fresno State women’s basketball team took control early and beat Utah State 76-64 Saturday night at the Save Mart Center.

It was the third straight win for the Bulldogs (7-3) and gave them a 2-0 start in the Mountain West Conference, which started play early to accommodate an earlier-than-usual conference tournament in March in Las Vegas. League play resumes Jan. 1.

Maddi Utti scored a game-high 20 points and the freshman Cavinder twins, Halee and Hanna, combined for 35. Utti had a team-high seven rebounds and Hanna Cavinder had seven assists.

Fresno State led 24-9 less than 8 minutes in.

The Bulldogs are back in action Thursday when they play La Verne at 11 a.m. at the Save Mart Center. It’s Elementary School Day at the game.
