The Fresno State women’s basketball team got back on the winning track Wednesday night with a 64-53 victory over visiting San Diego State.
Two straight road losses last week dropped the Bulldogs back into the middle of the Mountain West pack.
Things didn’t immediately look up back at the Save Mart Center, as San Diego State bottled season scoring leader Candice White and was within 35-32 with just more than three minutes left in the third quarter.
But that’s when sophomore Kristina Cavey went to work for the Bulldogs. She scored four baskets in the paint to close out the quarter as Fresno State pulled ahead 45-37.
Cavey finished with a career-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting (plus 3 of 7 on free throws).
White was held to seven (nearly 11 points off her season average) on 3-of-11 shooting.
The Bulldogs (9-9, 4-3 Mountain West) are back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Save Mart Center against Air Force. The Falcons are winless including a 64-58 loss to Fresno State on Dec. 30 in Colorado.
