Fresno State baseball: Bulldogs’ Guibor delivers walk-off hit in 10th
It was a pitching duel Saturday night at newly rechristened Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium, until Austin Guibor finally delivered in the 10th.
The junior hit a looping single to right with the bases loaded, scoring Scott Silva for a 1-0 walk-off win in front of 1,804 fans.
Guibor delivered on a 2-1 fastball, the ball hitting the grass just off the glove of diving Aztecs outfielder Tyler Adkison.
The Bulldogs (31-17, 18-8) have won 5 of 6 to sit a half-game out of first in the Mountain West Conference. Front-running New Mexico (32-17, 17-6) beat UNLV 6-2 on Saturday.
The Aztecs fall to 14-31 and 6-15.
Silva led off the bottom of the 10th with a double and Jesse Medrano and Aaron Arruda were walked intentionally by San Diego State’s Jacob Erickson.
Both starters dominated for first seven frames before the bullpens pushed the scoreless battle into extra innings.
Fresno State right-hander Jimmy Lambert fanned seven, walked three and gave up four hits in seven innings. Aztecs left-hander Brett Seeburger held Fresno State to five hits, struck out 10 and walked one.
The series concludes at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
